New "Jeeper"

Hi .... i recently got a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L V6 ..... its in pretty decent condition .... i do serious sand off-roading ..... being here in Dubai, UAE ....

question is ... what would be the initial checkpoints which i would need to do just to make sure that the Jeep is in ok shape to go out bashing with?

i see a few leaks by the tube in the 2nd oil pan .... being it an old car .... i would expect this .....

any help or additonal info to get me started on woking on my jeep would be greatly appreciated

X2 4.0 is not a v6
What do you mean the second oil pan??? Are you talking about the trans pan?

The oil pan doesn't have anything that goes into it. The tranny pan has one pipe for the dipstick and two metal hoses that enter the side on the tranny itself. India might have made some strange v6 model that never came to America. I'd recommend some pics of the underside and under the hood. As far as checking before wheeling goes, just check all your fluids, bushings, grease all your joints, check your tires, ect... I usually wait till stuff breaks then I worry about it lol

Yep not a V6 …. My bad :D

Leak is cured …. It was one of the plugs from the tranny pan …. Replaced and leak free (as of now)

I fell that there is a transmission issue though ….. it feels like it shifts from 1st to 4th gear …… from high torque to minimal torque after the shift?

Is there an electronic thing in the tranny which controls this?

thanks

Not sure about your transmission issue but if I were you, I'd definitely change my oil and do a good flush of the cooling system before wheeling it if you haven't already done so. XJs have mediocre cooling systems at best so they need to be at their best to perform well.

You have a very nice looking rig by the way!!

been doin some reading .... which was what I should have done in the first place ....

i tried adjusting the Throttle valve control ... or some call it the kick something cable??

it did improve the shifting a bit but not as smooth as i want

i'll try and do some OHM test to see if the TPS is properly dispursing the right amount of volts before i decide to have the tranny pan opened for solinoid checking
