well i got an 85 jeep from a friend of mine and i have been slowly working on it to get it up and going again... the first big thing i had to do was replace the fly wheel or "flex plate" because the center was blown on it. after got it all back together the transmission dumped fluid so i had to pull the tranny again to replace the pump seal. got that fixed and what not so then it was time for the engine. it has a better buick engine in it so its not the junker that came in tose jeeps.... here are my current issues though. it likes to idle high untill i put it into gear, then the idle drops to 850 or it trys to die on me so im going to do some vacuume line over hauling, the next problem is that the transmission shifts kinda strange on its own. i can manually shift from first up to drive and it seems fine but when i put it into drive it feels like its starting in 2nd and kinda laggs a second... other than that everything else seems to work ok? any hints on how to fix this would be great!

check any sensors. Is it Fuel Injected or carbureted?

is the tranny hooked into the factory computer system

second does it have a kick down/detent cable

ok well it has a carb not Fi. i will look into and at all of those things and i will post more Qs later today thankyou for the replys.

ok so i have been doin a lot of serching and what not,,, where and how do i adjust this kick down cable?

i sent the link with the free manual do you have a cable or linkage t the carb can you post a pic

i will post some pics of mt carb on th jeep and my spare that is off... as for the manual link you sent me is there any way of viewing it without downloading programs?
