Default new jeep project NEED ADVICE

i own a 1989 jeep cherokee and was interested in doing some very cheap mods to get it mud ready. It has been kept in a garage since the day it was bought new in 89 and has very minimal rust on the frame and components. First thing first i'm redoing the motor due to the over 222 thousand miles and the bad lifters. wanna keep the in line 4.0 6cylinder due to durability and good torque and the simple fact that i know it fits, and i already have it. I was thinking just a cheap body and block lift to hopefully get at least a +4" lift. have not looked into tires yet but wanna know what kind of clerence i can get before i can get a bigger tire size. any tips or tricks are appreciated. thank you

well the cherokee is a unibody so no body lift is possible. and if yours is a '89 the old springs are pretty tired i would guess so i'd say get new ones or an AAL not just a block. I would look at Rough country. As for tires it all depends on how much you want to trim the fenders. no trim you can get 31's w/ a 3 inch lift and with max trimming you can get 33's with the 3 inch lift

Check craigslist, I can almost daily find 3-4.5" lifts for around 200 bucks used of course. Also try to find one that has everything with it and as new as possible. This is what I would do if you don't have much cash.

just run a spacer in the ft and an add-a-leaf or longer shackle in the rear and cut those fenders. you can run a 32-33 in tire that way. i would not run a very big tire on stock axles because they are very weak. you may also want to licoln lock (weld the spider gears) in the rear for more traction! good luck!!---BRIAN
