New Jeep owner looking for exhaust assistance
Hi everyone. I'm new to the "life", just got my first black 92 sport. I got a great deal on it, it had a few problems when I bought it, like no exhaust from the cat back. I went on ebay and got a pipe and a muffler and figured I could just look at it and get it right, well.. its proved a little more difficult.
I was wondering if anyone had any photos of stock exhaust setups so I might be able to see how the pipe fits and how the muffler goes. Its an OEM setup, what I'm looking for.
Great site, btw. I've toured a little and I think its pretty cool. Thanks for any help.

Take a look at the dynomax cat back setup. It is aftermarket and is slightly louder but it will also free some airflow up aswell. It is cheap and works very well. I would recommend that if you are wanting a good quiet exhaust.

Mine was built at a muffler shop when I lived in Georgia. It was cheap. I think I remember paying $60 including a Flowmaster muffler that was a take off that he had sold but the man's wife said it was too loud. So I got that and a custom formed tailpipe for $60. I think it was in 2005.

Also look into the APN header. About $120 shipped to your door.
The XJ stock manifold cracks everytime. Nearly impossible to weld and fix. So the APN is a great replacement for cheap and is built very well.

My manifold wasn't cracked infact I still have it in the garage but with the new engine came the APN header and works perfect probably better flow and sounds a little better. I may even sell my stock manifold with a gasket since it's still in good condition..

I just installed the dynomax cat back. it's a very good unit and easy to install. If you plan on a budget boost lift or adding extended rear shackles your gonna have to cut the stainless tip off...i just installed the extended rear shackles today and the exhaust just chills right up against it....not good.

I have the Dynomax as well. Sound good, runs good, and it's a bargain. BUT, since you already bought one, let's see if we can figure out the issue. I assume it's a pre-bent pipe? If you're wondering how to route it, here's this:

Thanks a lot for this little graphic. It is a pre-bent pipe and I considered the dyno max and other aftermarkets but decided not to spend too much. Its a beat-up jeep, so this works. Thanks for the graphic, I'm going to try it out now!

Do you hear banjos?
Not true Bouncy!! I have had two XJs now, and neither of them have had cracks in the manifold, FWIW!! I have friends that have had probs, not me though, just lucky I guess!! A header will increase performance, though. Later!!

My '90 stil has the factory header and the thing is 18 years old. Just check the intake/exhaust bolts for tightness on a periodic basis. Make sure your exhaust hangers are not broken and it will last a good long time. Mine has!!!
