New head

I couldn't find much as far as the question Imgoing to ask. I'm going to be changing out my bad head in the next week. I was wondering if there is anything else I should do while I'm at it as far as new pistons and things as such. My buddy says that you should change Pistons with a new head but I wasn't sure. I'm already putting in a new radiator while I'm at it. And anyone know of a mid priced head? Most I have found are about 500 or so.

Kind of depends on reason for changing cylinder head, if it's cracked and has been leaking into the oil, change bearings (cam, rod & main).

Yea it's cracked from what I'm guessing. Coolent disappearing slowly, low oil pres. Had the thermostat go and it started right after that. Exhaust has a white look to it.

I just went through this, weekly I was having to add more coolant and couldn't find any leaks. Finally decided this was the problem after some help on here. Jeep ended up getting a new head, new water pump, new thermostat, cam, injectors, and lifters. Running good after it has all been replaced. Mine was at 90k when it happened. Good luck and hopefully you get it all replaced when you take it apart once and don't have to keep going back into it (like I did).

changing pistons would be the last thing you would want to do right now. As others have stated drain/replace the oil/filter, new head, new tune-up and she should good to go. Get a quality head gasket and clean every surface very well and you should not have any problem.
