New guy here with a 90 XJ and some questions

Hello all,

As of Wednesday I am the new owner of a 1990 XJ with 138k on the clock. Mods to date include a GM 10 bolt rear axle, Rubicon Express 6.5 lift, custom front bumper, roof rack, lots o lights, and 33" Goodyear wrangler M/T tires. Oh and K/N intake and straight piped exhaust.

This is my second jeep, I had a lifted Tj Sahara about a year ago, but sold it due to growing up and moving out.

On to the questions.

It leaks, looks like its the valve cover gasket so not too bad but I read that Felpro gaskets are the bees knees for these things, true or false.

NOTE it is a 90 so no high output 4.0, although not sure if that changes anything.

Also, she has no headliner. I will keep you updated on that one but it's cold here so I'm trying to fix that soon. I'm only telling you because I will have questions in this when I try to tackle it.

Final question.

My XJ is a bit of a slut. Meaning that she doesn't care who you are, she'll let you drive her. Meaning this: no key is required to start the rig up. Simple fix or no? Door locks work so I'm not toooo worried, but its still on the to do list!

Thanks in advance!

Ryan

also to answer your question, Easy fix, remove the keylock cylinder and replace with a new one. Theres a little slot on the column u stick a small screwdriver in and turn the keylock to the run? or on position and it will slide out.

The rubber gasket is the best to get for the valve cover but it runs about 45$ The quark felpro one works just fine and is 5$

Get 2 cans of 3M adhesive spray and custom fabric (real easy to do)

Shouldn't be too hard

Hey Ryan, it's cold here in Michigan also and with winter coming, the 96 Cherokee I just bought had no headliner either...I mean nothing, you'd look up and just see the green metal roof..lol.

Anyhow, I was fortunate to hit the junk yard by my house over the weekend and found a nice Tan 96 with a perfect headliner, panel was nice and fabric, other than Tan in color was pretty good. You have to remove all the plastic pieces along the roof to install and remove.

By the way, it took 4 cans of Duplicolor Fabric paint to paint the thing Grey, which is the color of my interior. Hit me up when you get ready, I can give some step by step instructions if needed.
