Default New fuel pump wrong gauge reading Help Help!

So I installed an aftermarket fuel pump assembly. And now my gas gauge isn't reading what it supposed to...

before I had a code: fuel sender unit voltage too high, or something along those lines. Help I'm going nuts I don't wanna have to drop the tank n double check the position of the float again -.-

When I filled the tank the gauge only went up to about a half a tank. but over the next two days or so it got up to full and now it won't come down from three quarters. Haven't out gas again, but based on the miles driven I should have between a quarter and half tank. HELP!

Alot of people run out of luck installing an offbrand pump.

What brand pump module did you install?

If it was an Airtex, replace it with a Bosch or Carter unit. Bosch was the OEM pump but Carter is a reliable substitute.

When it comes to fuel pump modules; if you're cheap, you will weep.

Check the prices of Carter fuel pump modules on Rockauto.com, or even on ebay. They run a little less expensive than the Bosch but will work.

Yeahp, I hear ya, I had an airtex in my Tahoe and it worked perfectly great, a little noisy though.

Before going any further, verify there is no corrosion or other crap in the fuel pump connector halves.

Before installing a new pump, plug it into the body harness connector and turn the key to run to see if the pump runs for a few seconds (repeat a couple of times to verify). Move the float arm up and down and see if the fuel quantity indicator matches, and puts the low levbel light on around 1/8 tank.

Why did you replace the old pump? Was it inop or putting out low pressure, or was there fuel level issues like you're seeing now?

If the old pump wasn't a fuel level issue, and you still have the old pump, plug it into the body harness pump connector and move the float arm up and down and see if the gauge follows.

PS: NEVER throw out old parts until it is verified the new part fixed it. I still have my old pump from a year ago. It is now a fuel level checking tool. LOL

I dropped the tank yesterday, and sure enough the float was hitting the back wall of the tank. Keeping it at a certain level. So I re positioned it, put it all back together, and all is good again. And no way I still have my old pump.
