Just did the 703 swap in my '96. Now, it's smoking to beat the band and smells like unburnt fuel.
I did the ecu reset (lights on and off) but that didn't seem to help. Is this normal?

Positive and negative terminals together and all. The smoke cleared up after a bit, now it's just reluctant to start and idles really low/poorly/shakes... Like a diesel motor.
Smells a little like raw gas in the exhaust too...

Maybe a leaking or bad injector. Were they new or used?
I put the same injectors in mine. So far it seems ok but it does run a little rich. I'm considering a new O2 sensor and see if it leans it out a bit.

I didn't see any leaks. I really took my time and did a lot of prep/cleaning first too.
After shutting it off, it immediately starts again easier, but after sitting, it cranks forever before catching.

I had similiar trouble when I installed my new motor. I took the fuel rail off to paint it and put new Orings on my injectors. When I reinstalled it I had put a nick in one of my fuel pressure regulator Orings, it took a looong time to crank and would idle like a diesel. Just a thought.

Checked the fuel pressure at the rail, all aces, 39-40lbs.
So I pulled the 703's and re-installed the old yellow-tops after cleaning them within an inch of their lives.
As I put them in, I heard them all click into place. That's when it dawned on me that I forgot the light-weight oil on the o-rings prior to installation of the 703's.
Still, I'm going to rig up an injector test setup to make sure the injectors are fully functional before giving them a second chance.
I'm of the opinion that either I didn't have them seated properly, or one or two are fubar.
Thanks for the suggestions!

This seems to be your issue. Without lubing them, the o-rings get a slight tear in them and the results of that tear are the issues you're having.

Well, they aren't torn, but testing will show whether one of 'em is bad or not.
