Never starts on the first crank
My Xj never starts on the first crank, no matter how long I crank, the second crank fires it right up. It's kind of embarrassing... I hear it can be leaky injectors?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

huh.. for ****s i always like to say throw it on a code reader to see if it gives you some direction. maybe a tune up is in order. how is your battery, alt., and starter? all check out for voltage? clean the battery leads, ground wires, check TB condition. TPS, IAC valve, o2 sensors, etc. can all contribute.. as for leaky injectors, idk specifically.. sorry.

try just turning the key to the "on" position a few times so you hear the fuel pump come on. Don't turn it to "start" and let it crank until the 3rd or 4th time. This is the "poor man's prime". I had the same symptom on my 96XJ and it was the check valve in my fuel pump assembly (in the tank). The fuel pressure would bleed off after it sat for more than a few hours and then it would be difficult to start and wouldn't start first-try at all unless I "primed" it a few times to get the pressure back up. If this is your problem, it will help until either the pump fails outright or you replace the defective part. I replaced the whole assembly with sending unit and all and it's started first try ever since.
If the "poor man's prime" doesn't help, then it's probably something electrical in my experience, like plugs or sensors or wiring issues. It could be leaky injectors, but that would lead to a fuel-rich-start and the poor man's prime would not help. Basically it could be a lot of things so you have to narrow it down a little and this is how I'd start.

Yep, PMP. I've learned to live with it, now part of my starting routine.
