I've been through this on other vehicles where the gear selector shaft is in the switch.
Rust around the shaft inside the switch gets rusted and there for expands making the switch seem like a 2 ton press was used to install it when it should simply slide off.
Soaking it in penetrating oil might help or not.
But since you have a new one ready to install.. I've ended up pulling the bad ones apart till that one plastic piece is left and cut a notch across it to release pressure with out damaging the selector shaft.
I'd say pry the hell out of it but I don't wanna hear anything about transmission cases being cracked or broken.

Use door shims, the wood type used to shim doors. Stick them in between the transmission shell and NSS and slowly tap them in until it pops off. Use as many as you'd like, they're cheap.
