Neutral Saf. switch/ Backing light

98,auto,np231

heres the deal, When i put it in reverse i have wait or pump the brakes for the rear light to turn on.
I know this might have something to do with the Neutral safety switch( sometimes have to put in N to start)

My question is how can i fix this without changing Neutral Saftety switch which is like 250?? ridiculous

I saw something about cleaning it? and putting back in. the contact points are dirty or something like that
