Need new carb - suggestions?

Just picked up an 85 Cherokee and I need to do some work to it to get it fully running. First up is a new carburetor. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy or what brand?

Good luck finding a good rebuilt carb, they're usually junk right out of the box. Those mid 80's feed back carbs are the worst thing to ever happen to an engine. The throttle shaft always wears the bore out and causes an air leak, the TPS is built into the carb and they alway go bad, and then there is the miles of old and brittle vacuum hoses that you have to deal with.

Then 2 choices, Weber or rebuilt carb.

Sons 85 2.5 runs great on the Weber progressive two barrel. But with the adapter, carb and air cleaner stacked up there the air cleaner hits the hood.

The Weber will work great, but it may not be smog legal in your area. It's a shame that a piece of crap carb is legal and one that works much better is not.

Then Weber is about the only option I know of.

with it being an 85 I don't have to go through emissions. Someone suggested possibly trying to find one at a junkyard. Good idea or no?
