Here's a pic of my 1999 DD puilling another 1999 with no engine or tranny or interior in it.
I have a 1998 that's in the paint shop that I'm going to lift when it returns.
The only Lifts I've seen that offer HD rear springs are the OME Lifts. What am I missing? Does anyone know others that offer choices on springs?
I realize I could have lowered the tongue weight by centering the Jeep over the Trailer tires... Just the 1800# trailer alone squats the heck out of the jeep!

Sorry to let you know but your putting too much weight behind that thing in my opinion.

I tow with mine and my Tuff Country springs are sweet. It doesn't sag at all with 1400 lbs on the back. Its a lift spring but not sure how much, probably 3.5" or so. If you want a "tow" setup I would get a set of air shocks which I have used before and would highly recommend.

The purple Jeep isn't the one I'm worried about. I have a Red one being painted that I'm going to lift. In my manual it says these Jeeps will tow 5000# if properly equipped.
My problem is when I lift my red one I want to be able to tow without looking like the purple one. Do they make air shocks for a 4.5" lift?

This is where your going to have to do some research. I don't have the air shocks on my XJ but on other rigs that are stock. I'm happy with the springs on my XJ so far, but you can email monroe and they should be able to tell you what shocks you need. I'm not sure the XJ would pull 5000# very well. I bet if you changed gears it might but that 4.0 would be struggling with that much weight, and I hope the trailer has breaks cause it wouldn't stop.

Yes my trailer has electric brakes. I'll try Monroe's website and see if I can find out something. I'd rather buy a lift kit with a heavier duty spring out back so the majority of the load would be on the springs rather than the air shocks. Pulling the load I have in the picture didn't seem to be a power issue, it was more of a "wow are my front wheels going to pop a wheelie" issue. Luckily I only had to go 3.5 miles.
Should have never sold my Suburban I guess... They don't mention lower gears to tow with in the Owners Manual... Hmmm! Just to run synthetic oil in diff...

air shocks for a 95 f150 4wd work for about 4 inches of lift, you just have to swap the lower bushings out and make sure you get the long ones cause the trucks came with 4 different types of shocks

I went to that link and put in 1998 cherokee. The only hitches are like the class 3 I have. No load leveling listed for the cherokee that I could see. I like your thought train though... I'm going to check into that. It may be tough with the unibody though...
One cherokee I looked at on Craigslist had towed too much weight and the unibody was quite damaged where the hitch bolts up. Nearly pulled the hitch out on the drivers side where it didn't have the load dispersing load strip like the passenger side...

do you have overload springs in your pack. the short like 1/2 or larger spring.

My Purple one has 4 springs in the leaf pack and I put the hitch on so it's only towed since I've owned it. 130k on the odo.
My real issue is when I lift that red one I've been working on I don't want to have this problem when I tow. The only springs I've seen that are available in different rates as in HD are from old man emu.
Do you know of any lifts where I can get HD springs for the rear?
I have a shop near me that could make me higher rate springs. Maybe they'd give me credit on the lift I bought if I ordered without the rear springs???

You can always have a set of rears made for it. I had a full set for my ****** pickup made and they cost me 600 bucks, but that was with the special bronze bushings in all 4 springs. I would imagine a simple set of HD XJ springs would cost around 200 bucks. Not bad since your getting what you want.
