If you head over to Cruiser54's website here you can download the full FSM for the 2001 XJ. Inside the download is a file called 01XJEE.PDF , that one has all of the wiring diagrams with colours and connector pin outs inside. The info you need is probably under "8Wa-39 VEHICLE THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM" , "8Wa-49 OVERHEAD CONSOLE" and "8Wa-80 CONNECTOR PIN-OUTS".

If you can't understand the diagrams, tell me what colours you do have and post a picture of exactly where the wiring is located so I can try and find it for you.

Check page #484 "8Wa - 80 - 103"

The first connector sounds right. If so, why they thought using the same colours for the ignition live and CCD Bus wire I have no idea. Use a multimeter and check which wire gives you +12V on ignition. Keep the wires apart so you don't short anything out.

It's silly why they chose to use the same coloured wire for a live and the Bus system. I don't know what sort of reading you'd get with a multimeter if you probed the Bus wire, hopefully someone with experience with it may be able to help you figure out if both wires read similarly.

You're a blessing for that link, sir. Thank you very much.
