NEED HELP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got an 01 cherokee sport and the tranny dipstick tore up today. Can I drive it without a tranny dipstick? I need an answer ASAP!!! Thanks guys!

Is it tore up at the tranny pan?
if it's not near the fluid level then yes. But I would seal it so no dirt gets inside.

just the stick or the whole tube, if just the stick i would plug it some how till you can get a new stick

Its just the stick. Stupid mechanic placed the tube back in wrong and when I try to put the dipstick in the lower end gets bent and I can't get it to go all the way in. I'm about 30 miles from home at work so I was worried I wouldn't make it home. I appreciate it guys!

First.. asking with some tact goes a long ways. NOW!!! isnt nice sounding when you need advice.

Second.. you fail at describing anything. We get that the dip stick is broken? or TORE UP.. as you say. Where and how did it get TORE UP.

Third.. its fine to drive without one considering.. there is no metal IN your transmission. Just put some duct tape over it and go get one at a junkyard for 5 bucks.

Sometimes they take a little force and you might be putting it in upside down.. rotate it 180 degrees and push harder.. it might work for you. My 88 did the same thing you're describing.

Yea sorry for the desperation I didn't really want to be stranded at work. Especially since I have to close tonight. I actually did try spinning it from every angle. The only reason I even removed it is because I have a slight leak on the exhaust. I had the guy replace the old fluid with new and with a new filter. What a HEADACHE it turned out to be.

Steelcityfan29 01-27-2011 04:37 PM

yea I've been through that.. id find some tape at work.. cover it up and call it a night. You'll be fine.

You check your tranny fluid with the engine running according to mechanical people :D so not having the stick in there wont do anything. Its not really under any pressure to speak of.

Haha yea man it sucks. Especially when I'm suppose to be going out of town for the wknd. Life's a BEACH!

Its just a dipstick man, you'll be ok. As long as the measuring stick is attached to the cap portion of the dipstick you could use all sorts of things to cap off the hole. Next time don't panic, just calm down and rationally think about it and save yourself a lot of stress.
