Need help identifying a part

This part cracked on me today. trying to figure out what it is/does ???? two wire-like probes come off it... off-white color... made of plastic and something else... mounted to body on drivers side under hood.

It broke when I was in a canadian tire parking lot trying to figure out where to install an oil catch can, so I just taped it together to gimp it home not knowing what the hell it does lol

OMG thank you!!!!!!

You don't NEED it, but for 15 bucks why not just fix it.

Cool thanks for the link. Just ordered it. Since they gotta ship it to me here in Canada not going to arrive until May! Yikes. Hope that gorilla tape holds it together until then. LOL. gotta love these old jeeps.

If it totally falls apart, you can connect the two wires together temporarily. If it fails, the Jeep will start and stall quickly afterwards.

That resistor reduces the voltage for the fuel pump after it starts to reduce the noise from the pump. As has been stated, if it fails, the fuel pump will only work when you're cranking the engine. After it starts, the engine will only run on residual fuel pressure until that's gone. You can safely put a jumper wire in it's place for a while until you get a new one. Without it, you may hear the whine of the fuel pump.

Note from DJ
If it were me I would remove the two wires from your broken ballast resistor and overlap them and tape them to each other metal to metal.
The reason being I think the resistor becomes hot when it is activated. I’m not sure how hot but it might cause a problem wrapped with the tape getting to hot.

Got a box of electrical connectors? Throw it in the back so if it don't you can build a jumper

if you need it.
