Default Need Cruise Control Kit Recommendation for '00 XJ

I'm thinking of installing aftermarket cruise control on my 2000 XJ. I see Audiovox CCS-100 has many good reviews on Amazon. Any recommendations? Also, I'm not sure of the difference between vacuum and electric type kits. Anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

Just make sure you get a name brand (like Audiovox) and follow the instructions. Both types have their place but the electric is needed for diesels and you can use either for a gas powered vehicle.

BlueXJ -- Thanks for the feedback. I ordered Audiovox CCS-100 a few days ago and awaiting delivery.

Well, today, I wired and piped enough to test my new Audiovox CCS-100 Cruise Control on my 2000 XJ. Promptly, I took it out on a road test. The cruise control worked just fine both on and off freeway. I'll still have to permanently mount servo, cover leads with tubing, and seal grommet hole on firewall where I threaded wires through. I'm happy choosing the CCS-100. The price was right, alot of good reviews, and I agree with both so far.

This information is for anyone installating Audiovox CCS-100 Cruise Control on XJ in the future,..

I found out the cruise control kick's in smoother if its switches for sensitivity setting, SW4 and SW5, are set for LOW.

sensitivity--- SW4---SW5
LOW -------- ON --- OFF <--- works better on my XJ
MEDIUM ----- OFF -- OFF <--- default setting

Yesterday, I test ran my XJ on freeways to try out three different internal sensitivity settings (LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH) on the cruise control. It had been on MEDUIM, the default setting, since it was installed a couple of weeks ago and it was working ok but there was a slight momentary jump in RPM when ever I pressed the SET or RESUME button on my cruise control while driving. I first tried the HIGH but that setting didn't work at all. The HIGH setting made RPM jerk up even more than the MEDIUM and the cruise control would not work at all. I then tried the LOW and the cruise control worked very smoothly, and no more RPM jumping at all.

CCS-100 manual also shows that the LOW is for "light vehecles with high horse power", MEDIUM for "most vehicles", and HIGH for "low power or heavy vehicles". So I thought for our XJ it should be set to either MEDIUM or HIGH but as I found out, on the contrary, the LOW worked best.

I know this thread iis long dead, but very relevant for me. I'm looking to put cruise into my 99 XJ 5speed. If I can find a CCS-100 how does the unit compensate for the clutch switch, or would I have to manually disengage to shift? No big deal either way.

Also, being that the CCS-100 is discontinued, is there a newer model from anyone that is good for our application?

Thanks!

Kevin

I am not familiar with the kit but most of them use the brake pedal switch on interrupt the circuit if the brake is applied. You would just have to get a NC switch and figure out a way to mount it by your clutch to interrupt it when you it your clutch. Your best bet is probably to find a 5 speed xj with factory cruise on it and steal the setup off of it.
