Mysterious knocking noise

So, for awhile now I have been hearing a mysterious light knocking/vibration noise coming from what feels like the transmission/flywheel area of my 91 xj. I'm not sure if it's a mount loose or something more severe. I did have to tighten my torque converter bolts awhile back, heck of a noise there!. This noise does not change if in neutral or in gear. This is fairly intermittent and doesn't affect the driving . I'm wanting to make sure before I would have to drop the trans and check the flywheel bolts. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Post a video of the noise, then we can hear exactly what you're concerned about.

The holes and studs may have gotten damaged so much the first time it was loose that they may not stay tight anymore.

I was able to replicate the noise. the vibration/tapping noise only happens in drive. I shifted between drive, neutral, reverse, park. only in drive. The noise isn't the same as when the torque converter bolts were loose.

Heres a link to the video.

I'm gonna recognize that! I tightened mine around 175K, and notice the knock still (now) at over 280K. Had I done it better with lock-tight it might be better. See>

That sounds like it! I'm going to check the bolts again.

this sounds exactly like mine! (2.5 though and manual tran). did you find what is making this rattle? local mechanic goes for hydraulic lifters, but I'm not sure...

The 2.5 was also known for piston slap.
