My Xj (Slowly getting built)

Well i just got outta boot camp beg of aug. So i went and picked up this xj i saw outside of dover for 800 bucks. 93 two door with 157000. Valve covr leak had been just fixed and the only other leak was from the oil filter adapter. Kinda rusty underneath but not to bad. Test drove her and was great and strong. http://a391.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...4b9a179fc6.jpg Ive recently bought the Rustys perform kit. Includes intake and exhaust. http://a232.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...c48227af5f.jpghttp://a575.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...8dc5d4c2c6.jpg I dont have the exhaust on yet. Then i found rust in the trunk. http://a624.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...bcbfc91227.jpghttp://a918.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...f764227485.jpg These picture are from when i ws in the process on getting all the rust cut out. i cut what i could tne hit it all with a needle gun then primed it all. then i got a big piece of cardboard and made a tempplate of my trunk and took it to boyds welding where they used this machine that would plasma cut 16 guage steel around the template. came out really good but i colda dont a better job on the template. http://a635.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...d67a62461a.jpgthis is the steel in and the next pic is it all sealed up.http://a472.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...4088ecd3e7.jpgI was gonna weld but didnt have time so it got riveted in. Thats all for now.

Great Job did you replace your Shock bolts while you had them exposed.

What are your plans for the rear now.

Might I suggest a new flooring...

nice floors, both of them.

Did you fasten any of that new metal to the unibody structure?

Also, you might want to check under the rear seat...in the corners. Use a screwdriver and a SFH (as opposed to a BFH)
The factory sealant hides alot of rust damage. These can be a PITA to repair as there are complex angles and curves, and not to mention, working thru the rear door opening...ouch
After removing all the rust here...it gives you an opportunity to inspect your leaf springs front bushing.

I made patches to repair mine.
Even removed the gas tank filler tunnel
But made sure to be extra careful with the welder in that area. Some spots I pop riveted because of the proximity of the rubber portions of the filler tube.

I went underneath and gave everything a nice slathering of roofing cement. Smooths everything out nicely and gets into those nooks and crannies that spray undercoating or liner cannot. Also, fills in any small holes you may have missed or blew thru with welder

Oh yeah,
Almost forgot.

NICE COLOR...

right now ima leav it how it is. i gotta do some basic maitenence to it. and put my exhaust on.

Milimande 09-15-2008 02:14 PM

well i got the exhaust on and it sounds bad ***. its got a nice low throaty tone with a slight crackle when you let off. i love it. plus at high rpms added with the sound of the intake its a beast. ima try to get a video of it soon

Milimande 09-16-2008 08:28 PM

so i got a tranny leak and a oil leak. the oil leak im pretty sure is comin from the filter adapter nd the tranny leak is comin from the cooler lines i think. also a alot of water comes out my exhaust not a drip either is that bad.
