Is it my transmission???
Hello All,
My name is Will. I just purchased my 1st Jeep about 3 months ago. It is a 2000 Cherokee Sport I6 4x4 automatic. I have begun to replace many of the stock items such as: track bar, tie rod, drag link, tie rods, bushings, ball joints, bearing hubs and a few other random items. I have my six u-joints and those are all next (didn't have time or knowledge when I did the hubs) Basically I am getting her ready for a 3" lift.
Anyhow, my problem is that when I accelerate the vehicle starts to move forward but it seems like a second before the axles catch up. I figure I would try to trouble shoot on a forum before I start replacing expensive parts such as the transmission.
Thank you so much for your time and help with this issue and I really appreciate any insight.
PS- So far this XJ has been the easiest thing ever to work on and it is a dog, I love it and I am addicted.
Cheers,
Will

Auto Trans
Oops, sorry forgot that part. It is an automatic trans and fluid was just changed so it is no help. Before I had it changed it did not smell burnt and the color was redish.

Will adjust that right now.
I have not adjusted that cable but i will go do that right now. As far as trans fluid it was done at the oil shop so it was just whatever was recommended for that year. It was winter, I live in an apartment and I was being lazy so my Uncle Ed did the fluids as soon as I bought it.
Such fast response, why have I not consulted a forum before.

We get paid GOOD.
Just kidding. We just like it A LOT.
You NEED TO find out what fluid was put in your trans. It MUST BE Dex/Merc and NOT ATF3 or 4.

Kriekie!!
So, I pushed that button, pressed the cable back, let the button up, wide open throttle but that didn't pull the cable back out. There was no clicking or anything, the braided line just moves freely in and out.
EDIT: Went back out and tried again, this time opened up throttle all the for real this time and it adjusted. Will be driving about later and will update as to whether or not it worked.
Thanks

Nope
Still does it. I will try to get a better feel for what it is doing but it never does it when I am trying to troubleshoot and I'm nervous to try too hard to recreate it. Will swap out fluid today and goo from there.
