My 1991 Cherokee Gas Gauge/Speedometer/Odometer Dead

Had some work done on the front end of my 1991 jeep (new grill, bumper,
and radiator).

First problem, my radio (brand new) started to find it hard to find a
station on FM particularly. It had been great before, but I really did
not focus much on this, as I typically pull music off my ipod

Yesterday, in the morning, the gas gauge, and the speedometer stopped
working. (I have the one with the Big Gas Gauge) and the gas indicator
is now over at the 3pm position. The speedometer is pegged on zero, and
the odometer is not moving at all.

So what do you guys think it might be? Its very cold, but do you think
it could be an electrical problem? I did a quick check on the fuses and
they seemed to be ok, but I only did a quick look to make sure they
were "whole"

Sounds to me, like you need to check your fuse box and see which one is blown then check your manual and see what circuts run into that fuse, and from there you can see where your problem lies.

another thing is take it to autozone and see what codes come up and compare them. DO NOT LET THEM SELL YOU ANYTHING!! the codes just tell you where to look, they do NOT diagnose the problem 100%. so, use the codes as a guide line on which circut to look.

That happened with my civic, the spedometer and tach were reading the same, and the radio stopped working, my #15 fuse blew checked the circuts and the accessory harnesses that dead end behind the engine were shorting out internally, i fixed it and replaced the fuse and everything was ok.

I will check that tomorrow, will drive the car over to Straus auto:

I'll check all the fuses and go from there. Good idea, and if I do it at the parts store I should be ok :)

Is there anything important to Grounding the 1991 Cherokee in the front passenger side of the car (what they had taken apart a couple of weeks ago?)

Another problem with cherokees is the connection on the back of the cluster. It tends to lose connection. If the fuse and ground arent the problem pull your cluster out and check all wiring connections and it wouldnt hurt to put some dielectric grease in the main cluster plugs. I have this same problem but it comes and goes. For a couple of months I didnt have gauges at all. For the past couple of months I have had gauges.. Sometimes it would be days sometimes months. At one point I was going to put in Autometer gauges and get rid of the plug.

There is an updated plug for the newer Cherokees, but none for the older models.

Do you know what year(s) the updated plug is for? I just had a diagnostics test run on my 99 XJ due to a possible skim module being bad. After running the diagnostics the damn thing started right up and ran! However, it now idles at 1k instead of 5oo rpms and my fuel guage, spedometer, and odometer do not work now. Not sure why or what the shop realy did. They said they replaced the battery because it was shot and causing an electrical problems...As I said, not sure what they "realy" did! Thank for your time!
