Default Multiple NSS Cleanings

Cleaned the NSS a few months ago. The CEL came on again while driving yesterday so went and got the code read and it was the same one as before. Went home and cleaned it again... The CEL is off and everything is fine. Is this something I should expect to keep coming up intermittently for the life of my XJ until I actually replace the NSS? Or could this be the sign of a bigger issue?

Just out of curiosity when you cleaned it did you use dielectric grease in it? If you use anything else it will gum up.

It's also possible that the contacts have become worn, and that can make the completion of the circuit intermittent at times.

I have to either find those drawings of NSS contacts that I did before, or just crack another one open and draw them. Last time, I made new contacts out of brass strip, and they worked quite well.

I used a pencil eraser to clean the brass on mine and it works like new.
