Moving battery cables from 96 to 98?

I was wondering if it was possible to transfer battery cables from a 96 to a 98. The previous owner of the 96 put in a cable upgrade, and I'm now parting it out in favor of my 98, which could use an upgrade. Thanks!

Do you think they were bought or homemade?
Tough to be 100% sure.
If you look here:

https://jeepcables.com/xj-big-7-comp...herokee-87-01/

And select the year you will see that they have '96 all by itself and then '97 to '01.

But if you go here:

https://www.ksuspensionfab.com/store...Upgrade.html#/

And choose a year they say '91 to '01.

So I looked up the alternator for a '96 at Napa. Cause thinking this would help determine one way or the other.

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/RSE2...put=alternator

And it appears that they can take the same alternator.

https://www.napaonline.com/en/search...=nol-veh-conds

But if you look you see there are 2 for the '98. 90 amp and 136 amp.
Now where I am going with this is the size of the alternator in relation to the mega fuse that is being used in the '96.
You might want to run a bigger mega fuse.
Plus I filled in a bunch of questions that Napa asked online. Assumed it was a 4.0, 4 door, 4 wheel drive, etc.
Bottom line is I think the sucker will bolt right up.
Check the back of the alternator between the 2 Jeeps to see if the are the same, positions the cables run to and from, etc.

Alright, I'll take a look! And worst case I can just swap over the alternator if anything. I appreciate the help and the research made to do so! Fingers crossed!

🤞

Swapping over the alternator from the '96 to the '98 might be one thing you don't want to do.
If the '98 has the 136 amp alternator that is pretty cool, Using the '96 could turn out to be a downgrade.
Like I said I am thinking everything will be fine.
There is something else you might want to consider if you could pull it off.
So the holder for the mega fuse. Most guys bolt it to the passenger fender.
I made my own battery cables so I planned for this but you might want to try and do this.

Now the Jeep had the bolt on the right in front of the PDC.
I used a battery terminal bolt that I shortened and cause of the square head it fit right in that slot on the left.
IMO made for a cleaner install.
