motor mount

So i figured what exactly happened to cause my jeep to catch on fire about three weeks ago. apparently the bolts that holds the passenger side motor mount to the block all sheered off pinching both battery cables to the chassis some how starting a fire. so i replaced every thing with hopes to get it up and running today only to find that the motor mount is broken.

so my question is: how do i go about replacing/fixing that? how expensive or difficult is it to drill out the bolts. also where can i fiind new motor mounts, preferably stronger ones.

its an 88 cherokee limited 4.0 4x4

Common problem. Ez-Outs work fine.

Brown Dog makes a replacement mount.

Replace all the hardware with fresh Grade 8 bolts.

Is it the actual motor mount that is broke or the motor mount bracket that bolts to the block? I just bought and repaired a jeep that had the same problem...the bolts that bolted the bracket to the block had just snapped off inside the block. It was a ***** to fix but its def. doable. What you'll need is a right angle drill, some easy outs, and grade 8 bolts. The bracket you'd prolly have to get from the jy or the dealer. Once you get the bolts out if you find that the threads on the block are **** (like man were) then youll need a tap and die set and perhaps some heli coils. Just make sure you do it right b/c if you screw up you can screw up your engine block, which means new engine!

Not so fast...

Brown Dog makes replacement mounts and brackets. No need to pay dealer prices (ever) and the BD brackets are stronger than the cast OEM brackets. They use 7 bolts on the left side and 8 on the right.

The great thing about that is that you don't have to remove the broken bolt. less on either side still means a lot more mounting points than the OEM bracket.

How do they use 7 bolts on the left side? What year is that? My mounting bracket only has 3 bolts...same as my engine block. Quick question since you seem to know what your talking about...I am worried about my engine mount bracket breaking again b/c I had to heli coil new threads in. What can I do to make that mount and bracket stronger and last longer. If it ever breaks again I'll prolly have to replace the engine b/c this is the second time the block has been re threaded, once by me, and once by the ppl who owned it befor me who drilled the new threads off center and weakened the block.

I figured Chuck Norris could just use his ear wax and spit to fix his mount. Must be a fake. :D

actually that is my real name, no relation to the actor though i am named after my dad, but any who that was pretty funny.

as far as i can tell the bolts snapped off. i haven't taken the mount itself off, but it looks like it might be intact *shrugs* I do plan to take it off road eventually so i would like the extra support.

hehe i had already made up my mind to get the brown dog mounts, but that put any questions or doubts i had to rest.

at this point i figure the hardest part is gonna be getting the three broken bolts out. That and waiting till pay day a week and a half from now to order the mounts...
