I'm missing the pin on my door that stops the door from opening too far. I don't even know what the part is called and I don't know how to replace it because the piece of metal on the door itself and the piece of metal on the vehicle that the pin goes through don't line up.

I hope that made sense, I didn't know how to put it.

Any help here?

i know what you mean, ive got extras if you want them but you could just put somethin else in there alot easier than me shipping them to you

close the door as far as you can pull the limiting bar out with some pliers is has a spring the holds it in not that hord to pull it out into position

i found it easier to take the mount off, put a new bolt in and then put that mount back on

1) The part you're referring to (the part screwed to the door, that is - not the pin) is called a "Door Check."

2) That pin is just a funky 1/4" roll pin. I've used 1/4" hitch pins, and 1/4" screws and nuts to replace it - either of which seems preferable to the funky roll pin anyhow (at least, to me.) You can stick pretty much anything 1/4" or so into that hole.

As far as getting the holes lined up with the door open, clamp a pair of vice locks onto the arm, and use that to pull the arm into place. You may need to finagle the door slightly as well to get it all lined up, but it's pretty easy if you think first.

I just did this with mine. used a screw driver in the limiting arm and a pry bar with a wood block to get it out far enough.. Only problem Im having now is that every time I open the door it sounds like im tearing it from the jeep. Sprayed, lubed, fiddled with it for days... I finally gave up and just added it to the list of noises my jeep makes. Besides, Now when Ive got it parked on the street its so recognizable that Ill hear anyone going into that door from a mile away. Any advice though would be appreciated on it...

Replace the door check. It should still be a fairly cheap part.

Remove the door liner, remove two nuts, remove door check. Install new door check, install two nuts, reinstall door liner. Pin limiting arm into pillar bracket. Alles gut!

Hit the JY. The door checks are available online or at dealerships, but they are pricey. They have them here:

For $57 per side. Or you could probably buy a whole door at a JY for that. I guess the 97-newer models have a different check strap that has a cushion at the end of travel or something to have less shock and last longer.

ya my door check is so loud its like its own car alarm. i tried to lube it pack it with grease and adjust it. needless to say i gave up and went o buy one and it is going to be like 60 bucks! what a rip off! any one know where i can get one cheep w/o going to the jy.

Here's a little tip for those who still have the tapered OEM pins.

Use a small zip-tie. Poke it thru the center and zip it almost tight.
I used RED to match my body color...use whatever color you want.

It keeps the pin in check.
I replaced 3 pins for my driver's door until I zip-tied it.

And before everyone chimes in and says "just use wire"
YES, you can use wire.
