Misfire

Would an internal defect in the distributor (excluding cap/rotor/wires) cause a misfire in only 1 cylinder? (Intermittent spark by timing light) 1992 4.0

Sure, but unlikely that the dizzy suddenly craps out. I had an intermittent cylinder 5 misfire. It turned out to be the upstream 02 sensor. I don't know why my computer (OBDII) picked on that one cylinder.
