I am having a similar problem. Mine does seem to be worse when cold. it kinda shakes the cab a little as well. Its the worse when your are in drive and just at idle at a red light or when i first start it up its bad also. mostly happens right at a 1000rpm. when i give it gas or am driving it goes away but i also as well hear what seems to be a lifter tick. From a couple members suggestions seems like the soultion to these problems would be to replace the lifters and o2 sensor? How hard of a job is it to replace the lifters? I'm mechanically inclined to some extent.

double check your plugs to make sure they are for sure "pre-gapped." and yes, a bad O2 sensor could be part of your problem, O2 sensors are designed to adjust your fuel system based on the amount of O2 actually going through your system, it will cause your vehicle to run lean or rich.

cool thanks for the reply! I looked one up on rock auto about $40.00 give or take for O2.

That sounds just like my problem...

Anybody got anywhere with their misfire? Im going through the same random annoying 1500rpm splutter and occasional dodgy idle thing - have replaced o2 sensors, ignition leads, coil, dizzy cap, rotor, plugs, injectors and Im now looking at ripping out the fuel pump and giving that a seeing to.
Mines a face lift 97 4.0 Sport. I heard they had issues with their pumps dissolving themselves and bunging up the filter and jets on some blog somewhere late at night ...
Theres been no loss of fluid in 1 years motoring and im hoping it not internal bleeding or knackered insides..Any ideas?
