Mind of its Own

My 1996 Cherokee tries to start itself. I remove the key and seconds later the car tries to turn itself over. Luckily no fuel gets sent so it doesnt start but i have to pop the hood every time I turn off the truck and remove the starter fuse. The key is never in and I can be inside the house at the top of the drive-way and it will attempt to start. It does have the "After market factory installed" Mopar alarm, but I had a mechanic disconnect it. It has drained the battery a few time by going all night. The problem started before i had the car but the previous owner failed to tell me that. When i first noticed it, it seemed to only happen when water got under the hood. Please help me . . I love my Jeep but its embarrassing to run out of the car at the supermarket just to pull a fuse. Any advice?

Does it have a remote start installed? If not the only thing I can think of is a short in the starter

I was told by the previous owner that it was installed but i havent seen any kind of module for it and was never given a remote to start it. If it is a short in the starter how do i go about fixing that

Many of the remote starts will do what you are describing. Take it to an alarm shop to see if that is what is on your Jeep. If it is have them remove it.

Starter short is unlikely but if that is the cause replace the starter and solinoid.
