Default Might save a 84 xj from scraper?

I had a guy offer to sell me an 84 xj 4x4 v6 5speed 4 door for $400. I countered with $300 Should know in morning.

So this XJ has a 2.8 v6 I'm told it is the same as the S10s? Also told the 2.8 is junk?
What are my engine options?
Would love to put a 4.3 in it Some say it will bolt up others say no?

Any thoughts?

For 300 what do you have to lose. easily worth that in parts even with the garbage engine.

Scrap value is $282 so it's almost a wash. ($164.91/ton)

Have fun! You'll spend time and money and then you'll have $1000 car, if it runs good and cold AC.
Sometimes it is smart to walk away from a free car.
You will not even find parts from junk yards, because they don't buy cars that old.
84 had GM ignition keys. Are you going to deal with carburetor?

If you want to have fun, go for it, but you have to realize, that you will not probably get your money back (car +parts) when you decide to sell it.
Rust?

Actually I had a few cars with a 2.8, they arent BAD but they have 120 horse I believe. If it runs and its gonna be a beater, i would do it. As long as the body is decent.

I would get it just to have a classic XJ, but I would also fix it up as much as I could and just have it as a nice driver. There's not much in it for wheeling unless you do a motor swap, which could be done with the right fab tools. If you want a project, go for it! That's what this whole forum is about isn't it? We all have our little projects, daily drivers, and junkers we still work on when we're bored or need extra parts. If all checks out good, $300 is a decent price in my eyes. Yeah, the 2.8 is a complete piece of crap, but the jeep itself could be a good platform. Just look it over and determine if it's good enough for your intentions.

Its still an xj. And a $300 xj for parts is worth it

And ps. Next time on a rig like that. Cut it in half and offer him $200

I did offer $200 but he declined it. Not sure what my intent was but I think you guys have talked me out of it. We have to many 4x4s now!

It has some kind of lift, I seen super lift shocks, shackles in the back not sure how the front was lifted, will any of that work on my 99? I know that's a 15 year jump, doubt it would work.

Nobody will give him more than $200. Even the scrapper. So just wait and he will take it
