Melted fan control plug
While installing a radio in my 96 XJ I noticed the plug to my fan control switch is melted and one wire looks to have gotten hot and gotten a little crispy. I know a friend of mine that is a mech told me XJ's had an issue with voltage being too much for the gauge of the wires to handle, especially when turned to high. Is the circuit fuse protected? Anyone else know of this or have any experience on the subject? I'd sure hate to be driving along and have my dash burst into flames.

not quite, the problem is when the blower motor gets old and starts pulling too many amps. need to replace the blower motor and the blower motor resistor

My fan motor seems to run fine however after a little more research it seems there are a few things I may need to do. Beside eventually replacing the fan motor and resistor I need to eventually replace the fan switch as well as splice in some new wires with new sheathed spade connectors for the rear of the switch. Evidently the actual cluster plug is not available anymore.
In all of my junk yard visits, I have been an XJ owner continuously since 1994 so probably hundreds, I have never seen that switch plug without any heat damage when I've looked behind the dash for one.
