Mass Airflow Sensor Vleaning
 

Took off throttle body to clean everything extra good, especially the Idle Air Controller and its housing and passages on the throttle body.
When I got to the MAF sensor, it was decidedly different than what I'd seen on YouTube for other vehicles. It has a rubber 90 degree tube that attaches to a metal straight tube and goes into the throttle body. I cleaned out the metal side, but didn't even attempt to clean in the MAF sensor.

Is there a technique for cleaning this sensor?

I assume it's the same as any other. Don't touch it and spray it down with MAFS cleaner and wait for it to dry before plugging it back in.

No, it is not like any other I've seen online.
The element is inside there somewhere, not out where you can see it and spray it off.
You cannot get to anything that does anything to spray down. It has a tube on the side that goes into the MAF sensor body. You can't see the element.
If you spray into it you fill up the sensor body with cleaner.

I don't think there would be anything wrong with filling it unless it's not meant to be cleaned. I'd just gently blow it out with compressed air afterwards.

You have a MAP sensor, not MAF. A MAP measures manifold vacuum. A MAF (you dont have one, btw) is typically found in the intake tube or even in the air filter box, and measures airflow into the engine. You can clean the fine filament inside a MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, but you shouldnt clean the inside of a MAP sensor, with anything. I tried that on a Mustang once and the MAP sensor was all over the place afterwards. Had to replace it. Maybe you can save one blowing it out, but it didnt help me.

I don't think I *must* clean it, just thought I would while I was in there. Then got stumped! (Imagine that lol)

I haven't had one of these MAP {manifold absolute pressure} sensors opened up yet...But supposedly there's a diaphragm in there and if you shoot cleaner in it you'll ruin the sensor.. Eventually with miles it'll stretch/ lose their effeciency and need replacement.. Make sure you get a mopar replacement for long life..

The MAP sensor on my 2000 WJ is still functioning after 263K miles because I HAVEN'T cleaned it! Don't freaking mess with it! The only important thing to worry about is the rubber elbow that connects it to the throttle body.
