Default MAP Sensor

Does this new MAP sensor look like it is missing it's top? What is all the gluey/sticky stuff exposed on the top?

That shouldn't be gooey/sticky at all it should just be epoxy potting material that they seal the electrics in. I can't remember if there's supposed to be a cover over it or not it's beena while since I had a 97+ with that TB mounted MAP sensor.

that's what I thought... [Shakes fist at Autozone!!!]. I think I can pry the cover off of my old one and put it on there to protect it. Thanks for the insight.

The top is missing. Should look like this.

Took a look at Rockauto, and i do see one without a cover, so i guess some are topless? https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...180370&jsn=389

that's weird, though. I feel like the epoxy potting material is just a magnet for dirt and debris as it's like a tacky/gluey substance, and will cause the MAP to fail prematurely.

That potting material shouldn't be like that unless they're using it as a sort of vibration dampner. Even still water can't penetrate it, it's like that mosquito stuck in fossilized Amber in Jurassic Park. Either way you are missing a protective cover I guess as shown in the previous photo.
