Manual Code Checking
I took my 1989 Jeep Cherokee Laredo to autozone to check the codes and they say they can't don't have the machine. Went to other autoparts store and no-one had the machine. Is there a way to use jumper wires and count the blinks of the check engine light and look up the code?

No Problems any more
Well the TPS went out and the tranny would not shift, but just in case anything else fails, I would like to know how to check the codes.

Apparently your Jeep does not have a Check Engine Light (CEL) and therefor does not throw codes. It appears that when you have an issue, you must track it down the old fashioned way; a Haines manual and a little help from a friend.
