Default Making it a cummins !

I have some sick fetish with the cummins diesel engines. I have always wanted to slam a 5.9 in my 00' xj. Although i dont think it will fit to well ! So if anyone out there has done this or know anyone who's done it just holler at me and let me know how much a pain it was. If i cant do a 5.9 maybe i will go with a 3.9 cummins. oh well guess we will just see which one fits !

have a friend with a 396 big block in his 93 xj. If he can make that fit then i'm sure you can get a cummins in there. Although he did have to relocate his radiator and trim the unibody rails out of the way some. Then renforce everything. Good luck and take some pictures that thing would be a beast. I'm sure there's some guys on pirate4x4 that could help you out with some of the logistics, but just be prepared they aren't as nice as the good people on this forum

I think the 5.9 will bolt directly in place. Might wanna upgrade the axles though.

i doubt that completly..your gonna have to do some custom fabbing to get a 360 to fit theres no way it will bolt directly into place.. but i hope someone can prove me wrong on that.. i think it wouldve been done already to alot of xjs if they bolted right in place

that would be sweet but i would look into the 3.9L's those 5.9's are huge and weigh A LOT i think you would have to convert your XJ to BOF to handle the massive torque that a 5.9 would push out.

a 6bt motor is not only to big but way to heavy! it would be so nose heavy it would be hard to wheel! but a 4bt would def be a sweet deal! they are pretty pricy! i got a deal on mine i bought an old wonder bread delivery truck for 400 bucks that had been laid over and wrecked.... but it had a 4bt with 68k on the odometer! i havent done anything with it jsut been siting on a stand for 2 yrs now but i wanna build it and put it in a small car or truck and race it think it would be cool!

A 6bt as stated is too heavy and has too much torque. You can reinforce everything, but the torque will just twist the unibody, and that isn't even worrying about the weight of it. A 4bt would should be somewhat manageable however.

I was gonna say fit would be my last worry..That much wait on such a small frame would be way to much. Would not only be front heavy but man that frame would twist bad eventually..

6BT is way to impractical to make work. Even the 89-93 6BTs made 160-180HP and 400ft-lbs of torque stock. With all the accessories on the engine its close to 1200lbs, its very heavy. 4BT would work but it is still a lot of weight to be putting on the front end of one of these. If you want to wheel something with a 6BT though, 73-87 Chevy Truck are easy to build and you can get crossmembers to put the 6BT in them. I have wheeled my 91 Dodge Cummins before, does pretty decent stock, torque is right where you want it.

I've also contemplated installing a 4BT into my XJ.

Default seems like everyones interested

Seems like eveyone would love to put the diesel in their jeeps, the only thing im wondering is how much, if at all i would gain from the 3.9l I'm just afraid it would make it a pooch and that i would have been better off leaving my 4.0 in it. IDK but i would love to try the 3.9 just something about that rattle you gotta love. And i have seen a 5.9 in a dakota... made me wonder what it was doing at a diesel truck show... until i walked up and seen the massive intercooler sticking out the bottom. The guy said his buddies bet him it couldnt be done, but he did it.... This might end up happening to me.. lol
