Major Problem!!!
I was driving home today, and the Jeep Died right on the freeway.
Here is the whole story: I was driving on the freeway(approx 65mph) for about 50 miles, I noticed the car acting a little funny(a little shaking). All of a sudden the car dies, I pull over to the side of the freeway in a giant cloud of smoke erupts from under the hood!! There was oil under the car(about a 12" circle). Have the car towed to the house because it will not start(cracnks but will not turn over). There is oil sprayed on the pass side of the engine compartment and in the air filter is whiteish gunk! My Assumption-Head Gasket?? Any Ideas?? |
Did the oil filter come loose or fall off
No the oil filter is intact, it has been leaking a small amout of oil since I bought it about 3 weeks ago.
The air box might have to do with your pvc valve but the leak it's hard to tell not lookin at it there is no holes in the block or head where it could be comin from sorry not much help good luck on the fix

The passenger side spray sounds like the oil filter adaptor or the oil pressure gauge sender came apart or started leaking. The milky white gunk you saw in your air filter box is oil and water mixed coming out of your oil breather. That suggests blown head gasket.
Can I place a bet on head gasket?
usally oil and electricle don't mix
remove spark and crank it over to see if there is any water on the cylinders
Did you notice any climbing of the temperature gauge or falling of the oil pressure gauge before your Jeep just died?? You definitely should have with what you found after the Jeep died.
I have no working oil or temp gague right noe, that was on my to do list this weekend was to replace both sensors. I know it should have been done!!! It did just start but it will only run really rough for a short period of time.
Pull your plugs and look for water in the cylinders and do a compression test on all cylinders if you have a gauge. This will let you know for sure if you're dealing with a blown head gasket. Donnot start it and drive it under any circumstances until you have it properly holding oil and water!!

Allright, now i have a project for tonight!
