Angry Recall = free tow hitch?

So I work at a Jeep service center in NY and I'm seeing all these older jeeps like WJs and ZJs coming in for a free tow hitch add on because of the gas tank being over exposed in the rear of the car which can be life or death of rear ended and broken. I have yet to get a letter in the mail regarding any recall about my XJ although the XJ gas tank is just as exposed at the other jeeps. Either crysler is just giving no love to the XJs or there's something that I don't know.

If you have any comments or info about this recall be sure to do so in this thread.

Looks like it's only the grands. Here's the notice:

I can only speculate that it is due to a design difference. The XJ is more square and the bumper sits lower. The ZJ has an upward sloping rear end that other vehicles can get under easier.

The only recall for my 1996 XJ that I am aware of is to replace the catalytic converter for free.

You can get a used hitch from a junkyard for 20 bucks. And like said the xj has a metal bumper and the tank is set back some from it.The grands have plastic bumpers and the tank is touching the bumper almost.

I don't know about zjs but my friends have wjs and their spare tire is under the trunk which pushes their gas tank lower than ours.

zj the spare is like the xj,The wj they put it in the floor which lowered the gas tank below the bumper big time.Next time you see the rear of one the back thing under the bumper is the gas tank.

All the Grands met the safety standards of the time.

I got a recall letter for my '97 Grand last year. I sent it back, reporting it as totalled/no longer driveable. Which was true, because my daughter totalled it July 5, 2014.

She walked away with only a bump on the head and a sore shoulder the next day.

Offset frontal crash with a TAHOE!

Two days later she went into labor and delivered a baby boy.
