Default Loud bang noise??

I have an 89 Cherokee. Three times now when I was driving in town in a 25 zone and braked there has been a loud noise like something slamming/hitting in the back underneath of the Jeep. I took it in to the mechanic and he can't figure out what it is. Yes my rear suspension is sagging and he suggested it could be bottoming out but that is not it. I do bottom out when I hit a bump. Anyway he had it in the air and can't find anything that would make that noise and of course when he drove it , it didn't make the noise either. Does anyone have any idea what to look for that could be the issue? It's pretty scary when it does this and it's my daily driver so I worry lol. It sounds like it is around the back axle area either center or passenger/center oriented.

I have a 87' Cherokee that was doing the same thing. Turned out it was one of the bearings on the differential carrier. You might want to pull the cover and check it. I wound up driving mine too long and ruined the carrier. Had to replace rear axle then.

hmm check the drums in the back mine makes a clunk and bang noise when hitting the brakes because i dont have self adjusters so when i hit them theres a decent gap making a bank sound when hitting them
