Default was loualy oking for spotlight relay, do i actually need one?

wanting to wire up two 100w 8" driving lamps to my 95 xj, however after looking on the KC website, i have found diagrams to wire without a relay.

http://support.kchilites.com/index.p...ch&attach_id=5

is using a relay worth the effort?

cheers

Total current for 2 lights = 16.6 amps.

You'd need a minimum of 12 gauge copper wire (10 gauge preferably) AND a toggle switch rated 30A at 12V if you want to go without a relay. That's some pretty big wire to be folding into a dashboard without shorting it or pushing the switches out of the mounts.

thanks a lot for that, think im going to go with the relay after all. the electronics scared me off initially but now ive found some more simple wiring diagrams it shouldnt be a problem, bar finding the light switch wires to connect to the relay and bringing myself to cut a hole for the switch in my dash...

I put the relay on the drivers side fender under the hood, then ran 14ga wire inside to the switch on the dash. Power from the battery to relay using 12ga and a 25A fuse, ground right from relay to fender. 12ga wires to lights.
