I've been having to add about 2 cups of coolant a month for the last 7 years, I don't know where it goes but I don't worry about it.

You would not be able to see coolant contamination in modern oils with the naked eye unless it is REALLY bad.
I agree with this. I also would be reluctant to drive it because of potential for continued bearing damage.

To expand on the thing with the oil, when a motor cools down, condensation forms on the metal surfaces inside the motor. Motor oils have a detergent package in them that is intended to bond to this moisture on startup to reduce the amount of damage it does until the motor is hot enough to boil it off.

Thirty years ago if you overwhelmed the detergent package with a coolant leak, the water would form a milky-looking emulsion in the oil. Now, however, the detergents have gotten so good that you can have a considerable amount of water or coolant in your oil before you can see any definite change in the oil's appearance, even though you're still doing damage.

The only sure way to rule out coolant in your oil is to send off a sample to a lab for analysis. I use Blackstone, but there are others. They charge $28 for the analysis and send you a sample kit for free. I do this at every oil change on my vehicles because the oil analysis tells you a lot of other neat things about what's happening in your motor.

The cam bearings will probably go first.

To be clear, you're referring to the rod bearings yes? I'm tearing into this project this weekend and will report back to you guys asap, with pictures hopefully.

Appreciate the input though, I wasn't aware coolant wasn't visible in modern oil unless it's a bad leak, must've only dealt with bad leaks in the past!
Any and all bearings. Crank, rod, and especially cam.
