Default Loosing coolant mystery

Hi all I recently had my radiator replaced, but I have noticed that my coolant keeps disappearing. About every two weeks I have to fill the reservoir back up. There are no visible leaks under the jeep.

At first I thought that I might have a leaky head gasket, but a week ago I took a 200 mile trip, and when I checked the next day the coolant level was fine. I think this would rule out the heater core too. Had the heat on the whole trip.

But I checked it today and the coolant level in the reservoir was low.

Any ideas as to what is going on here? The only theory I have is that maybe I have a water pump that leaks sometimes but not all the time. Is this possible?

Yes. The pump can leak while running and the evidence is quickly evaporated by the fan and air moving through the radiator.

Most of the parts places will loan/rent you a cooling system pressure tester. Pump the system up to the rated cap pressure and start looking. I found a leaky hose clamp that way, the evidence evaporated as soon as it appeared!

My coolant loss was from freeze/welsh plug on rear of block. Dripped if jeep sat for two days, if driven daily it seemed to evaporate and not drip.
That repair was no fun..
