Looking to run high beams off toggle switch HELP
 

So my switch to turn the high beams on is not working
im aware of the rod system with the switch down under the dash..
what im basically looking for is if any of you have tried it and know what wires i should be splicing into
there are 5 wires
2 purple and white. not sure
brown and black. thinking a ground
a red. power
and if i remember correctly a smaller pink


which would i be tapping into to bypass the switch? thanks

All of my Cherokees had light switches on the dash, although the highbeam is activated by the turn signal switch. That switch probably activates a relay, is it possible that maybe just the relay is bad?

and its the high beams.. yes they are activated thru the blinker lever.
but it uses a rod system to actually activate the switch which is located under the dash..


so test the ground and current wire on the harness under the dash and just add a ground for the toggle switch?

was confused as to all the wires on the harness.. im assuming those are signal wires to cut off the low beams?

I'm not aware of this 'rod system'. Could you provide some information regarding this? I'm wondering if you're refering to the Ignition switch.

Have you looked into the possibility of a relay that contorls the high beams? As for bypassing the wiring and hooking up your own switch I highly recommend you get a test light and use that to identify the wires you're trying to hook up.

well considering every jeep from 89 to i think 94 had em.... they are quite common

and would be using a voltmeter

Dimmer Switch
 

The dimmer switch is about $65 at the dealer, $40 at Napa. All wires on one plug in. Tough part is the two small screws which hold it to the steering column, tight space. I've gone thru 4. (Wire rot and shorts downline). My lows are LT green wire (also ties into fogs switch), my highs are white wire and also ties into hi indicator on dash. Tan is the power coming into the switch. Black is possible to ground, not sure. Sorry got no purples on mine. The actuation rod will fit right into the new dimmer switch.
Alternatively if you want to seperate the systems, run the headlite whites back to a good relay (30A capacity). Supply power the relay from battery with 10 to 12 ga wire and inline fuse. Control power the relay from a good heavy duty toggle on the dash. You could tie the control power toggle to additional relays for auxilliary lights at the same time.

Sorry, checked a couple ref. books schematics, couldn't find a definitive schematic for your 93. Couldn't find purple red or pink at that switch application. You may have to probe a while with a test lite or you may find a better reference guide in time.

According to the shop manual I have:

Purple/White is low beam
Tan/Black is 12V out from the headlight switch
Red/Orange is high beam
Pink/Light Green goes to fuse #4, This is the High beam indicator light in the instrument cluster
The second Purple/White is for fog lights.

Just replace the dimmer switch, it's mounted on the left side and down low on the column. Don't hack up the factory wiring, you think you're smarter than the geek that designed the circuit?

Just change the switch. Only 2 screws and 1 plug. the rod stays the switch comes out. Plug in the new switch put the screws back and adjust before tightening. One thing is to keep the rod pushed up so it doesn't slide down when removing the switch.. If it drops down you will have to push it back up and feel it in the signal arm.
