Sounds more like front end issue. Trac bar, tie rod/ends control arm/bushings, wheel joints, stuff like that. How is balance/alignment?

def something with the front end could be simple as a unbalanced tire or needs a alignment

its a 3 inch lift on it, with new leaf springs

so a slip yoke shouldnt be a issue i dont think

he said his mechanic looked it all over and couldnt find anything wrong with it other than the lift screwed something up

but as far as tie rods, ball joints etc its fine

seen the jeep today and talked to the owner

tires are aligned and balanced

the leaf springs are new and quite a bit taller than factory, he says the vibration is from the angle...which a sye will fix

is this true?
how much are they?
how hard to install?

you won't need a sye for a 3 inch lift.
look into the drive shaft u-joints. once you lift and keep old joints, they tend to vibrate at the new angle.

try removing the front drive shaft and take it for a spin too.

a shake is a little different than a vibration.

i know i shouldnt need a sye for a 3 inch lift, i had one on my 91 cherokee without any issues

My concern is that he put new leaf springs on the back, says it may have raised it higher than 3 inches...closer to 4 inches

I still dont know if it would need a sye for it. I talked to my mechanic and he thinks its the u joints in the drive shaft are worn and the lift is just "exaggerating" the issue.

My question is: what does it cost to have a sye installed. Ive seen prices from 150 dollars to 400 for a sye kit....how hard to install and whats all involved

again im assuming that its just the u joints in the drive shaft worn

I'm on 5.5" with a 4 degree shim but I'm also 2wd with a longer drive shaft. I don't have a SYE. I have 4x4 friends on 6.5 without a SYE and they're fine. I just need to fix my u joints. Lifting a vehicle does exaggerate the pre existing issue with u joints.

so if you were looking at this jeep, what do you think the vibrations at 45 mph are coming from?

if you got friends with 6.5 lift and no sye....than a 3 inch lift should not be a issue

where the vibrations coming from you think? didnt have it before the lift

you thinking the u joints are bad then? like my mechanic says?

How is your pinion angle? Meaning, where the driveshaft meets the differential in the rear... Is it angled? Or is it straight? Meaning, the drive shaft going into the differential, is is a straight line or is there and angle? Second, did the leaf springs have shims? I have a 3.5" pack with a 2.5" shackle with a 4 degree shim. It could be the pinion angle. However, the u joints could also be the problem. Can you move the driveshaft with your hands? Pushing an tugging on it does it move?

to be honest i dont know, i looked at it, but i dont remember...the leaf springs are new, taller than stock obviously....if its shimmed or not i dont know

i can try to get more info from him, but i think im almost better finding a stock jeep and doing a lift my self
