My son totaled his '97 Grand Cherokee and I'm looking for a replacement. Found a '97 standard Cherokee today that has 102K on it for about $3,800. It's clean. Body, motor and trans are good. The issues are:

- no gauges worked when we first started it until we jostled the turn-signal lever on the steering column. At least that seemed to bring things to life.

- it had a dead battery and the dealer had to jump it. The check gauges light came on and while I was driving it, the voltmeter went all the way to the right and stayed there (19 volts) for awhile, then returned to normal. It fluctuated a couple more times. Other gauges looked normal.

- the AIRBAG light stays on.

- Windows, lights, door locks, A/C all worked OK. Engine is strong.

Any ideas on what I'll need to fix here?
