A long shot, but...
...I'm looking to identify what each slot is for in my fuse box (driver's side interior). I've got a 96 SE, so there are bound to be empty slots, but I just got into this XJ and am checking EVERYTHING. I also found a red wire coming out from the front of the fuse panel . I have no idea what this is going to yet as I haven't traced it, but I have no faith in the PO, so we'll see what kind of electrical maze I find myself in.
Oh. Turns out that the non-functional dome lights (that I used to pull the selling price down) was purely a fuse issue. This was unexpected becuase the PO had removed and lost the dome light cover thinking it was a bulb issue. She was frustrated by the loss of the lights but didn't think/know to check the fuses . Hopefully the blown fuse is not the tip of a bigger issue.
Unforunately the book I have in front of me doesn't have the info I'm looking for. Please help if you can.
Thanks,
s

The fuse slots on your underdash fuse panel should be labeled. Get under there and look closely at it. They should read: INST., WIPER, DOME, RAD., A/C, etc. I actually have a 91 XJ. I could tell you what mine says but, ours are probably a little different. As for the red wire coming off the fuse box. Don't be alarmed rightaway. The fuse box has a couple accesory plug in terminals for addition of CB radios, or whtever you may need a 12vdc source for. However, if the PO can't figure out a basic dome light issue, maybe you should be concerned.....Just trace the wire out and see where it goes.

The number system in your XJ vs. the name system in mine is one of those "differences" I was talking about. I don't know why Jeep had to change things up with the newer year models when they already had a good system. Just remember, since you bought your Jeep from a Scotch tape electrician, to unhook the battery before ripping into the dash. In your type of situation, you never know what surprises may be waiting for you in there. Good luck!
