Locations on XJ for Hi-Lift Jacking?
 

Simple question that I could not find an answer to when I searched.

Were are good locations on the XJ for jacking with a Hi-Lift? I've read that the OEM bumpers work fine if you jack (always carefully with a Hi-Lift) at the mounting locations. Is this true? I've got a homebrew front bumper and a tow hitch so I think I'm golden (assuming the hitch isn't too far back behind the bumper) but what about the rest of us a lift but no after market bumpers or sliders? Where are our lifting points with a Hi-Lift?

I wouldnt use the OEM bumpers. Very thin metal and with the weight of the xj I would bet they would bend. I know on my hitch it sits to far back for the hi lift to get a good grab. Sliders would be the best bet but I know you dont have those. Trial and error I would say, just go slow and see if anything starts to bend

If you have a stock bumpers you can only lift at the mount points, but this is marginal, as you are going to be lifting on a single bolt head. Basically a Hi-Lift is worthless as a jack on a stock XJ. Lifting on a hitch is fine. You pretty much need sliders and aftermarket bumper to use a hi-lift as a jack.

You can use the stock bumpers if you really have to, especially if you don't really care what they look like.:thumbup: It's better than being stuck forever.:help:

get a shackle insert for your hitch, then flip the shackle up and stick the hi lift into that. then if you have a ratchet strap handy, use that to help secure the jack for added safety.

i use the shackles all the time with my hi-lift, front and back. that way the jack doesn't slip off the sloped bumper.
also, i wouldn't use the hi-lift on even an aftermarket rear bumper. the mounts are weak as chit. that whole panel that runs along the whole back is flimsy.

man i have used the stock a lot and have not bent it or anything but i likes to slip out so look out for that

Going back to the OP. I just throw mine in the back. The 48" one will fit perfectly behind the rear seat. My sub keep's it from flying all over the place. Im not a fan of mounting it to the bumpers or having it on the roof rack. Keeping it out of the elements will hopefully make it last longer.

The mounts for the bumper are pretty lame. However, if you tie your custom bumper into the hitch mounts as well as the stock bumper mounts you should be pretty good.

I don't see why you can't use it anywhere. just spread the load out by using a 2x4 or equivalent
