Linkage Loose?

Question Linkage Loose?

ok my automatic transmission only works in 4wd low anyone know why this could happen and how do i access the shifter linkage to make sure its not loose, i was told i can access it from inside, also my cherokee sometime sputters and dies when u are stopped and try to go forward, has no catalytic convertor.

The shifter on mine was controled by a cable and if yours is the same you can just pull the console out and make sure the bracket that holds it isnt bent and make sure its attached to the trans properley.

if i understand what your saying. you have to put the transfer case in 4lo to get it to move?

So are you saying the ONLY way you move is in 4LO...or when you need 4wd, the only selection that will work is 4LO? If you can ONLY move in 4LO no matter what, you have issues....if the only 4wd selection that works is 4LO, but you can still drive the vehicle is 2HI, then it may just be a linkage.

well heres what i was meaning to say the only way i can go in reverse is in 4lo it drives fine forward despite the fact it likes to die and bogs up hills. but could it be the linkage causing me to only have reverse in 4lo
