Some info I learned through here when purchasing a lifted vehicle.

Make sure the lift is decent...I guess.
Found out who built it.
Find out how they built it.

Maybe an inexperienced person installed the lift?

If I was you, I'd stay away from pre-lifted/owned jeeps. Not only are you able to not know the problems with it, but you know it's not your own work.

Honestly, I drive an automatic, and if I tried a standard, let's say it would take me a few hours to get to my destination.

And 1500, isn't a bad price. If the trans is the only problem... You'd be better off getting help from someone else. I don't know cars too well. Sorry.

You could probably find a cheap running cherokee for 1000 or less. Get a 3 inch lift and install it for cheaper or the same price. Either way, you know it's your own work and if the rig has any problems.

To clarify, you said 'put it in drive', which makes me assume its an automatic. It sounds like you have to move the shifter to the 1-2 position to get it to start in first? If this is correct, it sounds like some sort of electrical problem. Either way, stay away from the pre-lifted ones.
