Default lift question?

I just bought a 95 cherokee and want to do a lift pretty soon. I dont want to spend a lot of money but would like to do a 3-5'' lift. I found a 3'' add-a-leaf kit on Rusty's Offroad for $260. They also have 1.75'' shackles and poly spacers for $99 and i wanted to know if i could install these together to get a 4.75'' lift without having to buy any other parts. Oh and i plan on getting 31s too.

Try the search, and before you buy a lift you must know what you want to do with your jeep. What I mean is how much will you be on or off road what kind of off roading(rocks, trails, etc..) this makes it easier to know what you can and/or want to get.

I dont plan on doing any major offroading, i basically just want the look. I just dont know whether i need to get any other parts like adjustable trac bar, lower control arms, SYE, etc. The kit im looking at just comes with 4 shocks, 3'' front springs, 3'' add-a-leafs, brake line extensions, and i want the 1.75'' shackles and poly spacers if it can be done.

OK well in MY OPINION After 4" of lift you need a track bar and LCA's for it to be some what comfortable on the street(SYE/DS you may not need at 4" you will have to see how it feels for you). But if you want 4"-5" of lift than get a lift made for that skip the spacers and shackle thing for now. So if your going to still get just the 3" lift than you should be good without the adjustable track bar, lower control arms, SYE, etc.. If it was me I would save a little more loot and get a 4"-5" lift

My 96 has that same spec lift, not Rustys but JY. You will want a trackbar. Ride is rough due to CA angle, I'm getting drop brackets and Adjustable LCA. I have 1" TC drop, no vibes. When cash is available I will replace the B-pack rear spring (AAL) with Full pack lift springs, I am thinking about getting full-length coils in front.

My opinion if you aren't going to do it right and buy new leaf packs and full length coils do a JY lift. Much cheaper and you aren't out a load of cash once you decide to go bigger.

Front coils from V8 ZJ with Up Country + 2" spacer, S10 or Dakota springs for Bastart pack + extended Shackels. Adjustable trackbar, Adjustable LCA. YJ brake lines. get whatever parts you can find at JY, buy the rest new. Most likly the only Item you'll really find at the JY are the springs, but you might get lucky, You will also need longer shocks. Also pickup a V8 ZJ tie rod at the JY, good upgrade for the XJ.

I looked into a JY lift, but too much of a hassle.

There is no way I could find a ZJ with the upcountry package in a local U-pull it. I looked at doing the bastard pack, but again kinda a hassle.

Doing about 3" you still have to do shocks all around so -

Spacer $30 + shipping
Shocks $120 + shipping

(probably more)

Coils (if you can find the right ones) / leafs from wrecking yard $50

Total $200 at least + the time to pull all the parts.

I bought my 3" lift from Zone Offroad for $290 shipped to my door and it works just fine. Came with new coils, AAL's, shocks, and U-bolts. You could find something similar from RC for around the same price.

Oh, you can go with Rusty's too, but their shipping charges are BS. As far as stacking the 3" kit with the BB, you can do that too, but I wouldnt. Stay with the minimal lift unless you replace your control arms and track bar. Your caster with be all jacked up and your Jeep will ride like hell and be prone to death wobble, trust me I have been there.

Stick with the lowest amount of lift necessary to clear your desired tire size. 3" is fine for 31's. 4.75" and 31's will look goofy. Plus if you retain your stock control arms your axle will be so far back it will look even goofier.

Stepping down from my soap box now......

I was in the same spot as you were. Did a lot of research and ended up going from buying a RE 3.5 with full spring pack to the 2" BB with full leaf. Also added new tires and rims.

My XJ is my only DD so I won't be doing any major wheeling with it, but I do want to take advantage of the 4X4 when Mother Nature gets frisky. What I found is anything more than a 3" could start adding cost you need to be ready to deal with if you rely solely on that vehicle. Some guys slap a lift on and no issues, but others do and they have issues with death wobble, or vibes that can become expensive to track down.

I'm going with much of the advice I've gotten. Don't skimp on the lift. I'm looking into getting a JY specifically for wheeling which I'll be able to beat down every weekend.

Good Luck!

How is the zone lift? My buddy wants a lift but he got laid off and now has a much lower paying job but still wants it, and I know they are pretty inexpensive.
