Default Lift Kit

I just bought a '99 Cherokee 4.0 about three weeks ago. I have always owned Wranglers, but never a Cherokee, and never put a lift on anything. It has the stock suspension and there are no modifications. I am in the market for a suspension lift kit and I want some advice on the best brand, and size to get. I would like advice on anything else I need to get in addition to the kit. I don't want anything crazy in size because I still want to drive it on the interstate and around town.

thanks
-Clark

I would go either 2" budget boost most economical, can support 30" tires.
3-3.5" lift is a very common lift (it is what i have) it can clear 31" or 32" with a little trimming. RC makes a nice economical kit, Rubicon Express makes a great kit, and includes a lot of the little stuff needed. I have also heard good times about OME. Just be sure to get full leaf packs, as the AAL's will sag within a couple months and get a longer rear brake line, a YJ brake line works well.
this is what the RE 3.5" lift looks like with some 265 tires looks like

thanks for the help in that
I definitely want suspension lift not body lift. I want to be able to do substantial offroading and not worry about getting stuck, but I want the ability to drive on the interstate
so would you say 3.5" is the best for doing both?

ill start by saying its a good thing you want a suspension lift considering the xj is a unibody there fore no body lift is gonna be done. and yeah 3" to 3.5" is gonna be about your best bet for drive ability.

Do you feel a RE or BDS 4.5 is too high for driveablilty? Assuming that you get an SYE kit.

I wasn't aware you couldn't get a body lift.. I have always owned Wrangler's and I don't know a lot about Cherokee's as you can tell.

I'm assuming 4.5" would be ok with an SYE.. I would need to talk to some people with them and see what they recommend

so is Rubicon Express probably the best brand then?

I currently have the RE 3.5" kit and have had a BB from J/Y stuff and a RC kit on the 3 XJs I have owned. I like the RE best because of the ride and the quality of the kit. It included most of what was needed and I didn't need a SYE kit with this lift (I have an older XJ) but put one on b/c I thought I might want to go a little higher but am really very happy with the 3.5" of lift.
Were I to get another XJ I think I would try a BDS kit next time as I have only heard good things about their kits. I do have BDS shocks and they have helped with the ride quality.

i just posted up- im selling my 3" rough country springs and leaf packs. never used. i planned to run these with a set of rubicon express monotubes, jks quicker discos and a nice set of 31s. would be the best set up for a dd/trail rig. that was my original plan... yea the RE kit is nice, but pretty pricey...

I run the RE kit as well and I really like the quality of the parts and the completeness..My biggest suggestion is do not skimp on shocks..Shocks can make or brake the ride.
