Default Lift Coils?

I bought my '92 XJ with 5" lift on the front which is 3" skyjacker coils and 2" spacers. The ride on the front is as stiff as a rock. After doing some research I found out most lift builders use around a 150lb coil (180lb for HD if you have a heavy bumper/winch, which I don't). So I called Skyjacker and they only offer one 3" coil for a XJ thats rated at 218LBS!! (FYI for guys looking at Skyjacker Lifts)

Obviously I want to change my coils...my question is should I just swap out to a 150lb 3" coil and keep the 2" spacer or should I loose the spacer and go with a 4.5" coil? The cost diff is only about $30. You guys with big lifts...does all coil make a diff?

RC's 4.5" coils are rated near stock, I think 155 or 160. Rusty's spring rates are listed on his site too. I think he has soft coils.

BUT you are at 5" lift on short arms. It's gonna ride rough regardless of which coils are on it. Get some long arms or drop brackets and you will LOVE how it rides. It's all about the control arm angles. Keep em near parallel with the ground and your ride will be pleasant.

Yah I saw the RC drop brackets. Those are def going on the wish list. But do you think I should spend the extra to go 4.5" (all spring) or just stick with a 3" spring with my 2" spacer? Does it make a difference?

if you get a weaker spring and use an adjustable spacer, you can adjust for the eventual droop in the rear.. and you can possibly get springs with a better ride that way.

I have 8"zj springs on my 1991 XJ
